In continuation of the enforcement exercise embarked upon by Osun Internal Revenue Service with the aim of combing every open and hidden place where there are privately owned establishments carrying out illegal operations by not following due process in line with the law, one of the Sports Betting Companies “Hamabet”, situated at road 7 Ilare, Ile-Ife was today clamped down over illegal and unapproved operation.
According to the Board Secretary, Osun Internal Revenue Service, Barrister Oluwatosin Falomo, Hamabet Sports Betting Company is operating without obtaining a license for its operations and this contravenes Section 3 of the Osun State Betting Control Law, 2002 which stipulates that “no person shall in Osun State operate any pools betting business without a license under the law or distribute, print, or publish any paper incidental to pool betting business not licensed under this law”.
She stressed further that a similar exercise was carried out sometime ago on this same company in its branch office located at Rasco Area, Oke fia Osogbo, Osun State Capital.
Describing the unyielding attitude of the owner of the company as disrespectful to the dictate of law, Bar. Oluwatosin Falomo said, the Agency is on the lookout to continously fish out and descend full weight of law on all illegal Sports and Pool Betting business operators as well as any other business operating in the State without following due process.
She as well justified the Agency’s step to stop Hamabet Sports betting company from illegal operation as necessary, this she said would prevent innocent members of the public from doing business with the company as they could be duped due to the fact that they do not have any trace of identity.
